Love-Dart of Gastropod Helix pomatia   © Falk 2011

Gastropods invented the Bodkin-Point long before the first Archers did – and they still use them. Not as an armor piercing projectle, but as kind of an 'Ice Breaker'. Snails of the Helicidae family often produce a Love-Dart, which they fire at each other just before mating – to get into the right mood ...!
The shown Love-Dart from Helix pomatia is kind of four bladed and made from Calcite. It was used!
